Do I need a doctor's referral?
A doctor's referral is not necessary to see a physiotherapist. However, some private health insurance policies do require a doctor's referral before they will agree to cover your costs so we recommend you check the details of your policy before you start any treatment.
Which Physiotherapist should I see?
Although all our physiotherapists are experienced in all the usual problems that present for physiotherapy, they all have particular areas of interest and specialised areas of expertise. When booking your initial appointment, the receptionist will ask you the nature of the problem so that we can make sure that you see the most appropriate physiotherapist.
Is physiotherapy appropriate for my problem?
Physiotherapy can help with a broad range of problems including:
- Soft tissue injuries, including pulled muscles and ligaments
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Following surgery
- Posture pain
- Back and neck pain
- Headaches, dizziness and vertigo
- Women's health problems, including stress incontinence and problems following surgery
If you are unsure whether Physiotherapy may be of help the Receptionist can arrange for you to speak to a physiotherapist before making a decision regarding treatment.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your Physiotherapist will greet you in reception and show you through to a private treatment room where you will be asked a series of questions about your problem, what symptoms you have, when they first started, what activities aggravate or ease your symptoms, etc. You will be asked about what medication you are taking so it is best to write this down to bring with you.
Once your physiotherapist has gone through these initial questions, he or she will undertake a physical examination. This will involve asking you to do a series of movements and specialist tests which will help your physiotherapist to determine the true nature and cause of the problem. You will be asked to undress, so it is best to wear or bring with you some shorts and a vest-like top. Your dignity will be respected at all times.
What do I need to bring with me on my first visit?
It is helpful for the physiotherapist if you bring with you any X ray or scan reports and a list of any medications you are taking. If your problem could be sports-related, please bring your current training shoes and any orthotic shoe inserts you may have been prescribed in the past.
Will I need another appointment?
Following your initial assessment, your Physiotherapist will be able to say how many treatments they think you will need to have and over what period of time.
What will happen during my treatments sessions?
Your Physiotherapist will explain the nature of the problem and tell you whether Physiotherapy can help. Every treatment plan is specific to you and your problem. We will always try to educate you about your condition. This will enable you to get a better understanding of the potential influence that lifestyle and activities can play in causing or aggravating your problem. Therapy might involve various treatment methods including manual therapy such as soft tissue massage, mobilisations and manipulation, exercise therapy to develop posture and core body control and various electrotherapy modalities.
How much will each session cost?
Initial Assessment: £46.00
Follow up treatment sessions: £46.00
15 mins follow up sessions: £22.00
Domiciliary visits (including travel): £90.00
Payment is due at the end of each session. Payment can be made by credit/debit card, cheque or cash.
Is the cost of treatment covered by my Health Insurance?
Physiocare is recognised by all the major health care companies including Bupa, Axa PPP and Simply Health as well as many of the smaller ones. Each course of treatment will need to be pre-authorized by your insurance company and an authorization number may be issued. On receipt of this we will invoice your insurance company directly. We will invoice you for any excess payments due.
