We all know that our bodies change significantly during pregnancy. Getting back into shape after baby has arrived is often a concern for new mums. But while weight loss and toning up are often the priority, little thought is given to how pregnancy has transformed our core, internal muscles that provide essential support for posture and our basic body movements.
When you add to this the strains associated with looking after babies and toddlers, extra lifting, carrying and bending over, it comes as no surprise that many mums suffer a whole array of problems, such as back pain, stress incontinence, weak tummy muscles and poor posture.
At Physiocare, we have spent years treating such conditions and have developed a special programme to help, The Body Recovery Course. Designed to enable mums achieve their pre-pregnancy tone and posture, The Body Recovery Course focuses on gradually building control and tone back into our core muscles, providing essential support for the pelvis and spine and significantly improving posture.
The courses are held at our Twyford practice in groups of around six people, enabling us to give each individual the attention they require. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal and babies are also welcome to come along with mum, provided they are not yet crawling and therefore cannot come into any harm in the studio!
The Body Recovery Course is as popular as it is successful.
Here is what some participants had to say about it:
"An excellent course, it has been interesting and empowering, and the enthusiasm of the therapists has been inspiring"
"This course should be compulsory; I would strongly encourage other Mums to come along as soon as possible after the birth of their child"
